Epilepsy patients are invited to participate in the EpiTrax Beta trials starting today
Los Angeles – February 21, 2007 – NeoMed Software LLC, the leading provider of personal health monitoring solutions, is pleased to announce that a time-limited beta version of its advanced seizure tracking software, EpiTrax, is now available. The easy-to-use, downloadable application will give patients with epilepsy and their loved ones the ability to track every detail of their seizure activity, while offering their physicians additional assistance in applying proper therapies. Users of the beta will see 50 percent of their fee donated to epilepsy- NeoMed Web site at www.neomedsoft.com.
The concept for EpiTrax came from NeoMed’s CEO, Eric Schumacher, who has lived with complex related charities in exchange for feedback on the software. The software can be downloaded from the partial seizures for over 20 years. His personal experience with, and knowledge of, the challenges faced by the ~2.7 million Americans who have epilepsy, made him realize the need for a better tool to help these individuals track their seizures and potential seizure causes, or triggers.
"We developed this application to empower epilepsy patients and their loved ones to monitor seizure activity in a far more efficient and detailed way," said Eric Schumacher. "We are confident that the information captured by EpiTrax will help them better understand their seizures, while assisting neurologists and epileptologists in prescribing more accurate therapies."
EpiTrax was designed with the understanding that good seizure control - and hence, a better quality of life – starts with good information. The easy-to-use software allows individuals with epilepsy (or their caretakers) to record all details surrounding their seizure activity, from the date and time it occurred to what they were doing when it occurred. It also keeps track of other information that may have caused the seizure activity, from medication changes and daily diet, to exercise, sleep patterns, mood and more. Once the information is stored in the program, EpiTrax can identify trends and possible correlations between the recorded seizures and seizure triggers. This information can then be shared with physicians in the form of easy-to-read reports.
The EpiTrax beta is available on the NeoMed Software Web site (www.neomedsoft.com) for $74.99. The purpose of the beta is to illicit feedback on the software before its final launch later this spring. During the time-limited beta period, users of EpiTrax will have 50 percent of their fee donated to epilepsy-related charities in return for feedback on the product. Beta users will also receive the final product for free once it is released in March.
About Epilepsy
With ~2.7 million Americans affected by the disease, epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological diseases. It is also one of the oldest. Yet, despite its prevalence and its history, epilepsy remains one of the least understood and least funded neurological diseases. There are few definitive causes, and there are no known cures. In 30% of the cases, treatment does not work. People with epilepsy often face significant barriers to independence and the enjoyment of life; they can struggle from debilitating side-effects of treatments; experience depression; have learning disabilities and suffer from a host of other related psychological and physical risks.
