Company BackgrounderThe HistoryFounded in 2006, NeoMed Software LLC offers personal health monitoring solutions to assist people with diseases that have no cure. NeoMed Software was the brainchild of its founder, Eric Schumacher, who was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 19 years old, and has lived with the neurological disease ever since. As is common among those with epilepsy, much of Eric’s time has been spent keeping track of his complex partial seizures so that he might share that information with his doctors. However, years of jotting down details on pieces of paper, or recording information in Excel spreadsheets, proved one thing: the traditional methods of monitoring his health are inadequate. In addition to taking too much time, Eric usually could not retrieve specific information when he needed it most, like during a doctor’s visit. In speaking with others, Eric soon learned that his problems were not unique. Many others suffered from an inability to keep accurate notes or retrieve information when needed. With over a decade of experience in developing and marketing technology, Eric decided to develop his own solution to the problem. He brought in a software developer, Wolfgang Huber, and a creative director, David Brzozowski, and together they formed NeoMed Software. EpilepsyApproximately 2.7 million Americans have epilepsy, making it one of the most prevalent neurological diseases. It is also one of the oldest. Yet, despite its prevalence and its history, epilepsy remains one of the least understood and least funded neurological disorders. There are few definitive causes, and there are no known cures. In 30% of the cases, treatment does not work. People with epilepsy often face significant barriers to independence and the enjoyment of life; they can struggle from debilitating side–effects of treatments; experience depression; have learning disabilities and suffer from a host of other related psychological and physical risks. NeoMed Software’s first product – EpiTrax – was developed to empower epilepsy patients by giving them to tools to monitor their seizure activity in a far more efficient, and far more detailed, way. EpiTraxAs the world’s first seizure tracking software, EpiTrax was designed with the understanding that good seizure control – and hence, a better quality of life – starts with good information. EpiTrax lets individuals record every detail surrounding their seizure activity, such as the date and time it occurred and what they were doing when it occurred. Individuals can also keep track of other information that may have caused the seizure activity, including medication changes, daily diet, daily exercise, sleep patterns and more. EpiTrax can identify possible correlations between seizures and seizure activity. By analyzing the information individuals enter into it, EpiTrax can see, for example, whether certain sleep patterns are affecting seizures, or whether a change in medication might have caused a seizure. This information can then be shared with physicians in easy–to–read reports that visually display the possible correlations in the data. By storing all of this information in one place, and allowing individuals to easily search through it or share it with their doctors, EpiTrax gives individuals better control over their seizures, and ultimately, their lives. Social ResponsibilityIn addition to offering software to help individuals with debilitating diseases, NeoMed donates a portion of every sale to charitable causes. In the case of EpiTrax, 5% of all proceeds will be given to epilepsy–related services, programs and research. |
